What is NATGRID?

Prime Minister Modi formed the Police Technology Mission in 2021 during the BJP convention in Lucknow in November. The formation of this mission is to develop the police in future technologically. NATGRID i.e. National Intelligence Grid has already been created under this mission which provides a lot of data including immigration entry and exit, credit card purchase, telecommunication, individual taxpayers, air passengers, banking and financial transactions and train passengers. All this data can be used to generate intelligence when needed.

As we all know that the Government of India used to keep records of criminals in every police station manually, but now the government is preparing to keep the data of all the criminals online through NATGRID, so that in case of any crime, they can be easily caught by polish and records of criminals can be easily accessed by any police station or state police if there is a possibility of involvement of the offender.

In this, information about the records of criminals on the platform and access to them can be done on a real-time basis by different police stations across the country and various types of investigative agencies. At present, the government has not permitted the police of any state of the country to access data from the net grid. At present, only Indian investigative agencies like RAW, CBI, ED, SEBI, Narcotics Department etc. have been allowed to access data from the NATGRID.

For Crime and F.l.R. in our country, there is already a Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and System platform for record-keeping, which is implemented in 16347 police stations across the country. Recently, the data and profiles of more than 10 lakh 70 thousand sex offenders have been said to be with the law enforcement agencies of the country. The government will now be able to easily nab any criminal on a real-time basis based on data available in the net grid, due to which the tendency of criminals to commit crimes can be reduced.

In today's digital India era, this may be the right initiative by the government but a lot of people are seeing it by linking it with privacy and these people say that by having data in the net grid, the government is hurting and violating the rights of the leader of the people somewhere and that's why many people are opposing it. But the government has decided to implement it and it will be implemented in the whole country in the coming year.
